A story about Johnny Depp
I was in class and we were talking about the book Lady Audley’s Secret. Somehow, we started talking about who we would like to see Lady Audley in a movie adaptation. This was a difficult question because you need an actress who can play both bubbly cheerleader types AND completely crazy “I tried to set my husband on fire” types.
I declared that the only actor who could play a convincing woman, a convincing cheerleader type, and a convincing nut ball was Johnny Depp. The class agreed. He is truly the only actor with the range and skill to play a character like Lady Audley.
On a similar note, I want these movie-making dumbells to wake up and realize the amazing potential of genderplay. I want to see a typical romantic comedy with Johnny Depp as the female lead and Tilda Swinton as the male lead. I think the two of them would do an amazing job.
Let’s not forget that genderplay is very common in theatre. It’s just some silliness that it isn’t being transfered onto screen.
